Our Story
PAFCO’S Tuna Legacy
The Pacific Fishing Company, has been a critical component of Fiji’s economic growth since the 1950s. As the copra industry in the Lomaiviti Group declined, the government recognized the potential for the Pacific Ocean’s abundant tuna reserves to bring prosperity to the region. The idea was taken up and implemented before independence, with the belief that the ocean’s riches would become a sought-after resource by the international community, have strategic and political significance, and create wealth for Fiji and other Pacific Island nations. Today, PAFCO remains a major player in the fishing industry, helping to support the economy of Levuka and the entire Lomaiviti Group.
